She's not in Kansas anymore, or . . . she never was. After finishing college, a young Black woman reluctantly returns to her family's home in a gritty Oakland, CA neighborhood. She's eager to distance herself from the ghetto, but before she can move forward she must travel down the rabbit hole of her past. A riveting solo performance crafted through a collage of characters, monologues, and deft storytelling.

Genevieve Jessee is an actress and playwright. She showed an early affinity for performance, and began working in theatre in the San Francisco Bay Area as a teenager. She attended Dillard University of New Orleans, LA for her B.A. degree in Theatre Arts. Most recently, she completed her M.F.A. in Playwriting at Boston University in 2010. Her work He is Heavy, a ten-minute play exploring the pitfalls faced by young men in urban environments was last seen at The Source Festival in Washington, D.C.
