Opera arias
Stephen Wall, tenor
Debussy: Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune
Benjamin: Romantic Fantasy
Duo Patterson, violin and viola
Elgar: Variations on an Original Theme (Enigma), Op. 36
One of our finest vocal soloists, tenor Stephen Wall, has performed cantatas, oratorios, masses, and even symphonies (Beethoven's Ninth last spring) with us, but has never been featured on our programs performing his specialty - and true love - the great tenor opera arias. We highlight Steve in this concert along with Duo Patterson, who will take us on a spectacular journey with Arthur Benjamin's showpiece for violin and viola. Continuing the theme of celebrating friends, we include on this program the "Enigma" Variations of Sir Edward Elgar, in which each variation portrays one of the composer's close acquaintances. |
