Dr. Neal Barnard: 21-Day Weight Loss Kickstart Book Tour and Signing
Health expert Neal Barnard, M.D., will visit Central Library on his national press tour to discuss his latest title "21-Day Weight Loss Kickstart: Boost Metabolism, Lower Cholesterol, and Dramatically Improve Your Health. His weight-loss concept promotes a three-week immersion into an essentially perfect diet loaded with vegetables, fruits, and other healthy foods. He will also sign copies of his new book, which will be available for purchase at the event.
Dr. Barnard, whose nutrition program appears on PBS stations across the country, recommends foods that help tame the appetite and boost metabolism. His program does not require calorie counting or even exercise. He provides three weeks of recipes, nutrition information, and cooking tips, as well as inspiration from celebrities, including a foreword by Alicia Silverstone, tips from Biggest Loser's Bob Harper, and advice from NBA champion John Salley. Barnard is the author of several books on weight-loss, diabetes management and vegetarian diets.
From 5:30-6:30 p.m., ticketholders can also join Green Vegetarian Cuisine and Whole Foods Market for a vegetarian "tailgate party" prior to Dr. Neal Barnard's presentation.
Green will provide free cooking demos and offer menu samplings for sale to those attending the event.
Whole Foods Market will provide complimentary samples from their "Health Starts Here" initiative, which closely ties in to the concept of Barnard's weight-loss program.
