| Description |
"Cassandra at Mission Creek" Directed by John LeFan, Choreography by John LeFan, Art Direction by Anna Dal Pino.
The show takes place in a real space time warp at Mariposa Studio. It begins one thousand years ago, (where the studio stands today), on the banks of Mission Creek. Crafted from the classic Greek tragedies of Euripedes and Aeschylus, the story of the prophetess Cassandra is told through dance and polyrhythmic choral chant. The play travels through time to the end of Western Civilization. The setting stays constant. Also a constant thread: the sorrow of war for the victor as well as the loser. The piece is designed in a high contrast style. It takes its music from the "Banana" album by Andy Warhol and the Velvet Underground.

| Notes |
The Mariposa Studio is located in Project Artaud in the Mission District of San Francisco. There are a bunch of great places to eat and hang out nearby. Among them are the Slow Club for more upscale cuisine, Atlas Cafe for sandwiches and Evergreen Garden for great Vietnamese food. The Starbucks a block away from us has the friendliest staff and atmosphere that you could imagine. Sadie's Pink Elephant is a good bar where scruffy show biz types and artists hang out. The show will coincide with ArtSpan's San Francisco Open Studios. Mariposa Studio will be participating along with many other artists in the Project Artaud complex. The studio will be open during Weekend 3, October 20 & 21, from 11am to 6pm. Come Saturday and see a buildiing full of terrific visual art, then come see "Cassandra at Mission Creek" in the evening. |
