Maziakhe: Let us Build Together - 67 minutes
'Masizakhe: Let us Build Together' is a documentary film focused on the role that cultural activism is playing in shaping the future of South African society. The film gives voice to students, artists, teachers, and principals, who are using their work and talent to build one another up and re-establish individual and cultural identities. A major part of that identity includes expression through spoken word, hip-hop, and music. These rich elements are woven throughout this film to showcase the soul of South Africa and its people.
1 Brick at a Time - 50 minutes
One Brick at a Time takes it's title from a challenge launched by the Youth Center's director, Charles Walker, to the pre-teen children he and his staff are mentoring: for every successfully completed homework assignment or every good deed, a red paper cutout shaped like a brick is taped to the Center's wall. On the brick is the student's name and the reason for the brick's posting. This challange worked extremely well towards getting students to do their homework and to participate in life at this unique after school program.
