Fearing nothing, braving everything, The Imaginists Theatre Collective presents 3 From Geography and Plays by the Mother Of All Modernists, Gertrude Stein. The evening will comprise three short pieces aimed at the jugular of civilization: Ladies' Voices, What Happened, and Turkey and Bones and Eating and We Liked It.

"A rose is a rose is a rose is a rose," wrote Gertrude Stein, spiraling down into flowery mystery. Hemingway's mentor, bosom buddy of Picasso, she coined the phrase "lost generation" and famously said of Oakland, where she grew up, "There's no there there."  In "Miss Furr and Miss Skeene," Stein was the first writer to use the word "gay" in its modern, sexual, sense.  Now, in three short plays by the Mother of All Modernists, The Imaginists take the audience on a toboggan ride through rose petal oubliettes to the there that isn't there.  Words morph into things and reveal, by their shapes, the hearts that formed them. Actors appear through the theatre window from a house across the street.  Disembodied voices gossip and prophesy.  Stein's plays penetrate the subtle, shifting SOURCE of human society and expression.  As she magnetized and animated the Paris art world between the wars, she magnetizes actors and audience today.
