Thalia Symphony
Strauss: Four Last Songs Kimberly Giordano, soprano Kimberly Giordano, lauded for her "polished" and "honest performance" (Seattle Times) embodies the lyric soprano repertoire with her distinctive blend of elegance and emotion. Strauss' Four Last Songs is one of the greatest productions of a composer well-known for the beauty and breadth of his vocal music, Four Last Songs occupies a special place in Strauss' output. Nine days after Stauss' wife's death in 1950, the world hear the first performance of Four Last Songs as final testament to his wife. These works have often been described as Stauss' expression of his own readiness for death. There is something luminously serene and wise about these emotional and philosophical works.
Additional works on the program are Verdi's La Forza del Destino and Brahm's Serenade in D Major.
