Richard Wakes Up
The Wild Onion Theatre Company announces the opening of the play "Richard Wakes Up." on June 3rd, 2011. The play will be performed at the Lee Strasberg Theatre, with curtain going up at 8:00 PM Thursday through Sunday evenings.
Featured in the cast are Matt Sheelen as Richard, a small lonely flailing mustached man, Ross Alden as Henry Gorka, a savage detective who knows how to watch people, Margot Rubin as Sammy, a neighbor in bathrobes attempting to figure out the American Dream, and Megan Rose Greene as Charlotte Small, a stranger in yellow pajamas hiding in a motel room coat closet.
The play depicts our Richard, a mousy milquetoast of a man, waking up to a phone call inviting him to live underground forever. Richard declines, and that decision sends him on a journey, both terrifying and absurd, through motel swimming pools and elevator shafts, abandoned subway tunnels and high-rise Hollywood office buildings, as he attempts to figure out who he truly is and why he wants (and deserves) to stay above the surface.
"Richard Wakes Up" is directed by Matt Sax and Mark Silverberg, with lighting by Zach Beck, costumes by Nayla Wren and original scoring by Jon Schmidt.
The play will run through June 12th, 2011. General admission tickets are $15.
