EPIC: 20/20 SPEAKER BIOS

JUSTIN AHRENS
Justin Ahrens is the founder and principal of Rule29, a strategic creative firm located in Geneva, Illinois. Creative, teacher, speaker and author of the upcoming book Life Kerning, Justin was recently selected by Graphic Design USA as one of the top designers to watch. Rule29's award-winning work has been published in Communication Arts, HOW, PRINT, Graphis, Rockport Publishers and STEP. He has also been a member of many leading industry advisory boards, including the AIGA, HOW Conference, and currently on the Appleton Coated Design Council and EPIC Chicago.

From serving non-profit and Fortune 500 clients to his involvement with initiatives like Books Matter and Life In Abundance, Justin will tell you that the secret to his success all comes down to "making creative matter." The driving force behind Rule29 and the inspiration for nearly every initiative in which Justin enlists, this mantra simply boils down to passionately engaging in the work he creates and respecting the impact it has on lives and communities.

KERRI LIU
Kerri started working for Rule29 in 2004 as a junior designer. Since then, she has worked her way into being an integral part of the team. She is your go-to resource for a listening ear and a sounding board for new ideas, whether it's design direction or what type of sandwich to have for lunch. Kerri has loved design ever since she discovered it in college, and she has tirelessly pursued sharpening her skills ever since. Much of Kerri's passion for design comes from her love of stories. Understanding a client's unique story and then being able to retell it in a way that gets people interested and excited is what makes her tick. Kerri also loves people and enjoys heading up R29's local community outreach projects that help local people in need.

Outside of Rule29's walls Kerri spends her time hanging out with her husband, Joe, lifting heavy things at gyms, and looking for ways to inspire or encourage the people she meets. She has also taken a new liking to purple and metallic gold (we'll see how that one goes).

For more information on Kerri, visit www.rule29.com or follow on twitter @rule29 or @kerriliu

PROFESSOR ANNE MARIE MITCHELL
Anne Marie Mitchell has 20 years experience as a reporter, media spokesperson, crisis communications manager, corporate communications executive, executive coach and strategic communications trainer.

Anne Marie has worked with Fortune 500 clients and many non-profits, including Amoco (now BP), Georgia Pacific, FedEx, FMC, Case Corporation (now CNH), Nationwide, ComEd (the Chicago-based utility of parent company Exelon), Follett, Snap-On, the United States Postal Service, Lawrence Hall Youth Services, the Shedd Aquarium, Sprint, Greeley and Hansen, Abbott Pharmaceuticals and Sara Lee. Also, she has had a senior management role at several communications/consulting agencies, including Ketchum Public Relations, GolinHarris and The Grossman Group.

In 2006, Mitchell began a transition from full-time consulting to full-time faculty member teaching PR Studies at Columbia College Chicago. There she co-created the college's first course to focus on the use of social media in PR campaigns. Mitchell is in her fifth year of teaching social change communication, a course that teaches students social change communication strategies, and then sets them loose to create social change campaigns that support their own personal issue of choice. Mitchell has seen students drive to create meaningful change, as well as their belief in themselves as agents of change, steadily increase along with their comfort with and use of social media tools and strategies.

Anne Marie is fluent in Spanish, and has lived and traveled extensively in Spain, Mexico and South America. A native of Chicago, she has a Bachelors degree in Journalism and Spanish with honors from Indiana University, and a Masters in Spanish Literature from Loyola University.
