Take in the rich kaleidoscope of sounds, smells and shapes on the gorgeous High Line Park, and turn your experience into art! Performance artist Leese Walker will direct you and the group using the technique of Soundpainting, to respond to what you encounter along the walk, sculpting your words and gestures into a site-specific, orchestral collage of text and movement. What will the rushing taxis, native flowers and lazy sunbathers trigger in you, and what will come out of your collective response?
Leese Walker is the Artistic/Producing Director of the Strike Anywhere Performance Ensemble, comprised of world-class musicians, dancers, visual artists and actors. She founded the theatre in 1997 to create politically-charged, original works that address socially relevant issues. In 1996, Walter Thompson invited Leese to join the Walter Thompson Orchestra as the first actor and to help adapt Soundpainting, the live-composing sign language, for theater. Leese freelances as a teaching-artist with BAM, WNYC and Roundabout Theatre Company. She served on the board of directors for the Network of Ensemble Theatres from 2003-2008.
Create Culture's artist-led Creative Walks are fun ways to rediscover yourself by engaging artistically with the urban landscape of New York City. No artistic experience necessary. Reclaim the City. Create. Be Yourself.
