Science: Buddy Ratner: Advances in Regeneration
Plastic and metal "replacement parts" - artificial hips, hearts, or corneas might seem high-tech, but an even bigger medical-technology revolution is underway: directing the body to regenerate and repair itself. And UW Bioengineering Professor Buddy Ratner is on the cutting edge. Discussing past reconstructive approaches; modern biomaterials devices; tissue engineering; and the UW's efforts in heart-muscle repair, eye therapies, and bone regeneration, Ratner looks to the future, where new materials will change the way medicine is practiced and aging is approached.
