The Final Scene by Gene Abravaya
The San Francisco Premiere
Gretchen Manning helped create "The Promising Dawn," a long running soap opera, and has been its star since the show began. But the show's ratings are not what they once were, and now it's time for a change. Join her and a wonderfull assortment of characters on the studio set as they attempt to tape one final scene.
The Final Scene had it's World Premiere at the 6th Street Playhouse in Santa Rosa earlier this year. It is playwright, Gene Abravaya's second full-length play, following closely on the heels of his critically acclaimed, Book of Matthew, which, produced by Pacific Alliance Stage Company, premiered at Spreckels Performing Arts Center in 2008.
"Sonoma playwright Gene Abravaya gives a glimpse of what goes on behind the television cameras when a soap opera episode goes awry. The humor is madcap" (Cari Lynn Pace - Curtain Up/For All Events, Member SFBATCC)
"' The Final Scene,' the brand new play by Gene Abravaya is one of the best comedies I have read or seen in a while.....excellent cast, with the help of the superb direction, was able to find humor in reality, not parody.....the opening night audience were roaring in laughter." (Paul Webb - Neighborhood Now)
" 'The Final Scene' (by Gene Abravaya) is a lively, surprise-filled comic romp with some very uniquely creative twists..standout characterizations....a pleasurable glimpse into the mechanics of daytime drama in the 1980s. 'The Final Scene' fully justifies the sense of eager anticipation that always surrounds world premieres." (Greg & Suzanne Angeo - For All Events)
