2015 Playwrights Festival
This July we return with our signature event when the 2015 Playwrights Festival roars into town, anchored by the world premiere of last year's festival winner, Irene Pynn's' How To Field Dress An Android'.
In addition to the premiere of our first sci-fi production (!) we have a spectacular day of workshops, readings and performances on July 11th that celebrate the art of creation and playwriting.
Check out of lineup of events below and mark your calendar for an all-star day of theatre on July 11th!
Lunch & Learn: Anatomy of a Scene with Thomas & Judy Heath Noon - 1:30pm Enjoy a boxed lunch (sold on site) and sit down with local award-winning playwrights Thomas & Judy Heath (Sunset Years, Perfectly Normel People) as they present a mixed-media break down one of their original scenes and guide the audience through and informative and exciting journey of the playwriting process. $15 ($22 w/ boxed lunch order from Normandy Farm)
2015 Finalist Staged Readings & Music Performance 2:30pm - 4:00pm Enjoy fifteen minute staged readings of our three Playwrights Festival finalists, Camerados by Roy Proctor, The Cannibals by Theroun Patterson and Never Living by Richard Ridley, along with a brief Q & A with the playwrights. Audiences will provide feedback to help decide the winner of our 2015 festival.
During deliberation, celebrated local musician and composer Manny Houston will present a musical interpretation of each play and share his inspiration in a live piano performance inspired by each work. $15
24 Hour Playhouse performance 7:00pm Each year a handful of brave artists convene the day before our festival and plan and rehearse an entire short play in the course of 24 hours. Directed by Charleston theatre veteran Jay Danner, our friends at 5th Wall Productions will organize a full short play that will receive its premiere 24 hours later on our Playwrights Festival stage.
The Poetry of Craigslist Following 24 Hour Playhouse Local comedian Jeremy Mclellan (City Paper: Best Local Comic 2015) will host an all-star lineup of Charleston artists dramatically interpreting an hilarious lineup of real and outrageous Craigslist ads posted by actual human beings from Charleston and beyond. You won't believe what people will say when they don't have to share their true identity. A wild night of sometimes creepy, often dirty and always hilarious guerrilla theatre! ($15 for both 24 Hour & Craigslist)
Festival Pass: $40 allows access to all four events plus lunch
