Just before Helen of Troy's face launched a thousand ships, the goddess Artemis ceased all active winds keeping the ships at bay. In an effort to support his brother's honor, Agamemon is forced to sacrifice his daughter in order to lift this halt on wind. Iphigeneia at Aulis is Euripides's final tragic saga of a family's emotional journey through grief and acceptance. In Josh Atlman's re-imagining of Iphigeneia at Aulis, this play is intimate and engaging through the elimination of the choral odes. Infusing the play with live original music and a strong sense of ritual, Lights Out Theatre Company brings a fresh approach to a Greek classic.
Iphigeneia at Aulis features: Ben Chang, Anthony DeMarco, Barbara Figgins, Michael Hamilton, Adam Hinkle, Anne Leone, Anna Lucero, Kipp Moorman, and Andrew Nowak. Stage Management by Mary Rose O'Connor, Lighting Design by Nic Jones, Property Design by Christina Dougherty, Dramaturgy by Sarah Sapperstein, and Graphic Design by Kate Bateman.
Lights Out Theatre Company approaches its productions as if they were throwing parties among friends, and holds a passion for sharing its work with people who have not typically been considered traditional theatre audiences. With a special focus on creating an exciting, fun environment, and a tight youthful community, LOTC seeks to harness in the theatre with the same energy and theatricality of a rock concert.
Lights Out Theatre Company is a company of multi-disciplined artists dedicated to serving Chicago audiences with fresh and provocative theatrical productions. United under the common goal to bring new ideas, voices, and audiences into the theatre, LOTC seeks to create works that are relevant, risky, and transcendent of tradition and genre.
