Sama Duo takes as its name a nuanced Arabic term that describes the spectrum of relationships between intense listening, spirituality, and music-making itself. A marriage of modern electronic technology and the ancient improvisational methods of India and the Middle East, Sama Duo's sound conjures thoughts of a platform of whirling dervishes spinning on the very edge of space. Sama Duo's instrumentation includes oud, fretless guitar, tabla, drum set wrapped into an entrancing, rhythmically- driven, wide-ranging rock/funk ethos. Sama Duo is Mustafa Stefan Dill (fretless and scalloped guitars, oud, sarod) and Jefferson Voorhees (drum kit, tabla, naal, tar, gome).
