Jazz at the Bakery
"Born in New York City of American parents but with a Brazilian heart," her bio begins, and for over 20 years Sandy Cressman has let that heart sing. After recording as a member of the influential trio Pastiche, her solo career took off in the early 1990s. With Brazilian keyboardist Marcos Silva she cultivated a loyal Bay Area following that culminated with the 1999 release "Homenagem Brasileira." She also explores Flamenco, Cuban and other Latin styles in her work with Somba y Luz and Orchestra Candela. We're very happy to add Sandy Cressman to the Healdsburg Jazz Festival line-up.
Her back-up band is a talented group of musicians, including Rich Kuhns, Peter Barshay and Kendrick Freeman.
Opening the evening's show will be the highly regarded Healdsburg High School Jazz Band, a town favorite for many years. Currently guitarist Kai Devitt-Lee is in the group, and several other area students bring this group up to a high level of performance.
