Three Pillars Delsarte Intensive
If you are a dancer, actor, public speaker, athlete, gymnast, or simply want to communicate more effectively, these workshops are for you.
WHAT: This Three Pillars Arts 9-hour intensive is a thorough overview of the Delsarte System led by the world's leading instructor, Joe Williams. The Delsarte System maps human expression in the body and it's universal meaning, and is useful for dancers, actors, painters, sculptors, singers and yogis. Luminaries throughout history who were inspired by Delsarte's work include: Martha Graham, Isadora Duncan, Ruth St Denis, Ted Shawn, Rudolf Laban, Mathias Alexander, Lauren Bacall and more. Students who take all 9 hours will receive a Three Pillars Arts Delsarte Intensive certificate of attendance.

Delsarte Fundamentals (Sat. June 27th 1-2pm) :
This seminar introduces students to some of the most basic elements of body language, as revealed by Delsarte. Not applicable to only dance but to all the arts, business, communications, psychology, or any others who would benefit from more knowledge of the self. We look at the common movement languages of forward and back, side to side, diagonals, curves, and some simple expressions of the angles of head movement.
Symbolism of the Entire Body (Sat. June 27th 2-4pm):
This seminar explores Delsarte's identification of Mental, Moral-Emotive, and Vital energies, as expressed in many parts of the body. This is a class filled with "A-Ha!" moments as students recognize how accurate and applicable these forgotten truths are. Learn how changing the height of a gesture by a few inches, or changing which finger is used to initiate a touch can powerfully alter the meaning of that gesture. Learn how your own movement patterns my be limiting the expressive use of your entire body.
Secrets of the Stage (Sat. June 27th 4-6pm):
This is the actual technique segment for bringing about the transformation of your body into the best artistic tool it can be. In this seminar we explore Delsarte's exercises in relaxation, and harmonic balance, revealing these three qualities in any person. Beauty is harmonic movement, revealing the inner beauty in action. Power is strength and readiness made accessible by the leverage and relaxation of balance movement. Presence is to be present in your entire body, cultivated by harmonic movement. This is theual technique segment for bringing about the transformation of your body into the best artistic tool it can be.
9 Laws of Movement (Sun. June 28th 12pm-2pm):
Delsarte, in addition to the parts of the body, studied principles of motion and dynamic. In this class we study his nine "Laws of Gesture." I refer to them as "Principles," given that the word "laws" can be misunderstood to be limits, rules of boundaries, rather than a more scientific use of the word as descriptive. We explore his Principles of: Altitude, Force, Motion, Sequence, Direction, Form, Reaction, Velocity, and Extension. All of these principles can inspire and illuminate movement patterns, choreography, communicative gesture, and many other applications.
Power of Props (Sun., June 28th 2-4pm)
In this class we combine what we have learned about zones of the body, and principles of gesture, and we apply that to how and where we hold and move props as we dance. Every object becomes imbued with more and more meaning, as we connect it to the communicative truths within our bodies and our movement.
WHO:
Joe Williams (aka Willy Barrett), is the world's leading teacher of the Delsarte system of Expression, and has been leading workshops since 1998. He has presented Delsarte to communities as diverse as Morocco and the Casbah Dance, The Dalcroze Program at Juilliard, The National Center of Dance in Paris, The Acting and Music programs at the Cincinnati Conservatory, Cincinnati Yoga School Teacher Training, both in Ohio and India, The National Art History Institute of Paris, The Great Burlesque Expo in Boston, and Burlicon in Seattle, and many, many other locations. He demonstrates that the principles of Delsarte are valid and useful across a wide range of artistic performance work, and his students, who range from the Paul Taylor Dance Company, Vienna Festival Ballet, and countless ethnic dancers, burlesque and performance artists, and actors would all agree. His goal is to restore this lost knowledge to the world of the arts, and empower as many artists as possible, to bring their best vision to reality.

1-hour Introductory Workshop $25 (June 27, 1pm)
any 2 Hour Workshop $35, $45 after June 12th
