Nature Matters: Place and Belonging (New Networks for Nature)
Following the huge success of our 2014 symposium, our 2015 annual event will once again take place at the Stamford Arts Centre, Stamford, Lincolnshire, from Thursday 12th to Saturday 14th November 2015. The theme, very broadly, will be Place and Belonging.
Our speakers and performers include Germaine Greer, best known for The Female Eunuch (1970), but more recently for making a stand for conservation with her book The White Beech of which Amazon quotes her as saying: "For years I had wandered Australia with an aching heart. Everywhere I had ever travelled across the vast expanse of the fabulous country where I was born I had seen devastation, denuded hills, eroded slopes, weeds from all over the world, feral animals, open-cut mines as big as cities, salt rivers, salt earth, abandoned townships, whole beaches made of beer cans."
Other speakers include: George Monbiot, whose regular articles in the Guardian and recent book Feral are changing our perception of the environment in the most remarkable and hopeful way, and whose TED talk on re-wilding has been viewed over 3 million times; Simon Barnes, Tony Juniper and Mary Colwell, producer of Radio 4's Shared Planet, whose recent book on John Muir celebrates what has been called the 'best idea we ever had: National Parks'.
We will also have an art gallery exhibition (exhibited artworks may be purchased), books for sale from authors who are speaking and attending, and locally-sourced, organic catering. And, as always, there will be plenty of time and space for conversation and networking, with the opportunity to continue socializing in local haunts on the Thurday and Friday nights.
