Mystical Night of Music and Poetry: From Formless to Form
Back by popular demand after last summer's riveting performance, the Lucid Art Foundation is creating a second concert at the Dance Palace Community Center in Point Reyes Station.   Creative direction by Fariba Bogzaran.

Featured performers:

Suphala Patankar, Tabla  

Suphala is one of the most versatile young tabla artists making music today. A protégé of the great tabla masters Ustad Allarakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain, Suphala is fluent in a diversity of musical traditions that inform her unique compositions and her amazing improvisational performances. She has released four albums to date:  Instru Mental (2000), The Now (2005) Blueprint (2007) and Alien Ancestry (2013. These releases go beyond the limits of genre and style, while referencing such diverse influences as Western classical, Indian classical, electronic, jazz, folk and soul. The musicians she recorded or performed with include Norah Jones, Perry Ferrell, Edie Brickell, Vernon Reid, Timbaland, Sean Lennon, 4Hero, Yoko Ono, Vijay Iyer and Joan Osbourne, among others.


Dehghani Brothers: Sina, Tombak & Samandar, Tar and Daf

Sina is known for his innovative style and improvisational mastery on the ancient Persian classical drums: Tombak (wooden drum) and Daf (hand drum). He studied with several prominent Persian master percussionists and has been a teacher for number of years.  Sina plays in solo performances and in an ensemble in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout the United States.

Samandar is a professional musician playing two Persian classical instruments: Tar (ancient Persian string instrument) and Daf. He has been playing music from a young age and trained with master musicians in Iran. He performs regularly with Persian classical ensembles in the San Francisco Bay Area and other cities in the United States.  He is also a scholar with a vast knowledge of Persian poetry, literature and music.


Rishii Chowdhury, Tabla

Rishii, born and living in England, is a 'rising star' in the World of Indian Classical music. He has been labeled an 'Overseas Youth Icon' by the Eastern Beats Music Society, Assam, India. He has studied with various great masters as Ustad Zakir Hussain and Pandit Anindo Chatterjee.  Rishii has been involved in many collaborative world music projects working with tap dance, Western classical, jazz, electronic, reggae, and electro rock. He is the founder of Rishii Arts and Yo-Tabla academy in England where he performs, and teaches tabla to young adults and children.

Tobias Roberson, Cajon

Tobias is known for his innovative style and improvisational ability on the Middle Eastern Doumbek and Flamenco Cajon.  He has collaborated with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra and the Eastern European vocal ensemble, Kitka.  He is a featured artist on 20 CDs and DVDs spanning multiple genres. Tobias's love of music has taken him to many corners of the earth including Egypt, Turkey, Greece and 5 years in Mysore, India. His mastery and energetic style of playing Cajon is truly mesmerizing.

Fariba Bogzaran, Shamanic drumming and poetic recitation

Fariba is the co-founder and creative director of the Lucid Art Foundation. She is a multi-media artist who integrates science, dreams, rhythm and poetry into her art making.  In the 1980's, she began her training in shamanic studies and drumming, Egyptian drumming and rhythm. In 1989, she developed a co-creative ritual performances by using shamanic instruments to call unity in diversity. Individuals from all over the country participated in these powerful performances.  For twenty-five years, she taught at the Department of Arts and Consciousness at John F. Kennedy University and co-authored two academic books; Extraordinary Dreams (SUNY, 2002), and Integral Dreaming (SUNY, 2012).
