Giacomo Puccini is holed up in Tuscany trying to finish his first opera in years, The Girl of the Golden West, but romantic intrigues are the real topic of this daring near-wordless film. Using music, expressive acting, and sparse narration based on original correspondenceas well as some actual footage of Puccini from 1915Puccini and the Girl attempts to uncover the truth behind the tragic suicide of a servant girl who was accused of being Puccini's lover.
