New England Americana presents: Glenn Yoder, Highway Ghosts, Sam Reid & The Riot Act.
That's right three of Boston's top Americana acts are teaming up for an amazingnight of music at the Lizard Lounge. And just to make the night extra special...Highway Ghosts will be recording a live "group vocal" with the audience for a song on theirupcoming CD. That's
right...three great bands...and the chance to sing on a CD! This is a night that you do not want to miss!
Glenn Yoder glides between guitar-driven rock and folk-tinged acoustic balladry. Infusing the hallowed Texas songwriter tradition with modern jangly pop (think
Wilco and the Jayhawks), other songs beckon to a darker place: swampy blues in the vein of James McMurtry and even Morphine. Raised just north of Dallas, Yoder
settled in Boston in 2003 and formed the award-winning folk-rock group Cassavettes with several longtime friends and fellow Texans. But as Cassavettes moved increasingly toward a pop-rock sound, Yoder's prolific pen continued
writing roots music, in addition to the majority of Cassavettes' catalog. In search of a home for these orphan songs, Yoder teamed up with producer Todd Thibaud and released "Okono Road" in 2009 under his own name.
Highway Ghosts' debut CDhasreceived National acclaim from a variety of media outlets. This hashelped establish them asadriving force in thelocal Americana scene. In fact,The Boston Globe listedHighway Ghosts intheirTop
Local CDs of 2009 (alongside Sarah Borges, David Wax Museum and The Everyday Visuals)."On 'After All This Time,' Highway Ghosts masterfully blend roots-rocking guitars, ragged-but-right vocals set to rustic melodies, and other
good stuff that never goes out of style when it's done right. Echoing the late-night/early morning feel of alt-country progenitors such as the BoDeans and the Jayhawks, this is an auspicious debut that brims with equal parts heartache, swagger, and a dose of hard-won wisdom." - Jonathan Perry, The Boston Globe
Sam Reid and the Riot Act is an American roots and bluegrass band of the un-pure variety, with plenty of flatpicking and three-part harmonies punctuated by
driving drums and Caribbean rhythms. The band delivers their own brand of live acoustic music influenced and continually inspired by traditional Irish/Scottish/Appalachian fiddle tunes and the rhythms of the vast Caribbean Sea. Sam grew up flat picking bluegrass guitar outside of Boston and joined up with Johnny Ransom while the two were members of country/punk outfit Three Day
Threshold. Gettysburg, PA's own John Campbell holds it all together with hypnotizing drums which make it nearly impossible not to stomp yer feet.
