Attendance: Limited to 12 people in order to provide an optimal learning experience.
Details: This is the second in a brand new series of monthly educational nature hikes (outings are also planned for July, Aug & Sept.). It is a unique opportunity to learn about nature from an experienced naturalist guide in the company of like-minded individuals. Think of it as a private mobile nature class.
Format: On this moderate length hike, we will stop frequently to look at birds, wildflowers, trees, ferns, mammals, reptiles & amphibians, insects, mushrooms, or anything else that captures our interest. Your guide will be there to help identify things and provide loads of interesting information.
Knowledge level: Suitable for all levels, from beginner to advanced.
Physical requirements: Must be able to comfortably walk up to 6 km over trails with some slopes.
ABOUT HIGH PARK At 399 acres, High Park is blessed with a diverse range of habitats, including globally rare black oak savannah. Thanks to the park's ecological diversity, we are certain to see an impressive array of flora and fauna, some of which are found nowhere else in the city. Whether this will be your first time to High Park or you have visited the park on numerous occasions, there are always lots of new things to discover.
ABOUT THE LEADER I am the founder of the Toronto Nature Study Group (www.meetup.com/Toronto-Nature-Study-Group) and a professional naturalist with more than 25 years of experience in nature study and teaching. Over the years I have done walks, talks and workshops for 70+ organizations including naturalist clubs, universities, nature festivals, and nature centres. I have also worked as a summer staff naturalist at Algonquin Provincial Park.
