Sacramento Baroque Soloists present "Storm at Sea"
Sacramento Baroque Soloists' fourth concert set of the season will showcase the group's players in six contrasting concertos. Flutist Cathie Apple will perform "Il Gardellino," the Concerto in D major which evokes the sound of a goldfinch, with trills, leaps, and florid passagework. Violinist David Sego will perform "Tempesta di Mare," or "Storm at Sea," which Vivaldi expresses through the sound of crashing swells and contrasting calm. Cellists John Lutterman and Michael Lawson will play Concertos in G minor and B minor, which exploit the rich and poignant tonal capabilities of the cello. The group will also perform the Concerto for Four Violins in F major, which is reminiscent of the Concertos of Corelli, and the raucous Concerto for Strings in G minor.
