Bach's St. Matthew Passion @ Monastery of the Holy Spirit
A Lenten Meditation in Music and Song
UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA Collegium Musicum, University Chorus, with members of the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra present Johann Sebastian Bach's masterpiece, the Matthaüs-Passion, BWV 244.
In what is regarded as one of the greatest works in all of classical sacred music, Bach brings the drama and tragedy of the Matthew Passion to musical life. Writing for double choruses, double orchestras, and soloists at the height of his creativity, the composer uses magnificent artistic detail to highlight the story, and draws the listener to intense reflection. It is a product of immense devotion and a moving, powerful monument: an idyllic reflection for the Holy Season of Lent.
