King Hedley II
Karamu House Cleveland, OH
The eighth work of the Pulitzer winner August Wilson's 10 play theatrical opus, this play illuminates the African American experience in the '80s. Set in 1985, it tells the heart wrenching story of King Hedley, an ex-con in post-Reagan Pittsburgh trying to rebuild his life. Surrounded by his mother, his new wife, and his best friend, Hedley's is the tale of a man desperate for a better life in a society contemptuous of his dreams. This grand salute to the late, great playwright is directed by Caroline Jackson-Smith. (For ages 17 and up)
