The Lottery - A Film by Madeleine Sachler
Tuesday March 15th - 7:30 pm $6 JCC Members, Seniors and Students $8 General Admission JCC East Bay 1414 Walnut Street Berkeley
The Lottery is a film that follows four families from Harlem and the Bronx in New York who have entered their children in a public lottery in the hope of escaping their failing local zone schools. Out of the thousands of lottery applicants, only a small minority will win the chance of a better education. The Lottery follows the ferocious debate surrounding the education reform movement. Interviews with politicians, parents and educators explain not only the crisis in public education, but also why it is fixable. There will be a Question and Answer period after the move.
