Voices From The River
This production is a spoken word, dance and music representation of the voices that are not often heard but that matter in our society. The voices heard will include those of (1) the youth that are currently detained at James River detention center (2) the youth from all sides of the James River that participate in Culture4Mykids, Inc /Taaluma Youth Performance Company and (3) the voices of the ancestors that guide and direct us in the direction for culture, growth and community building. All of these voices put together will create a very powerful and moving production.
From one of the seniors leading the project at James River Detention Center:
Our purpose is to be heard. Voices from all over yearn to have the satisfaction of having their stories told by no one but themselves. This project will allow the teen and/or young adults to have a creative avenue of expressing their emotions via spoken word.Teen and young adults deserve to have the ears of the world around them. They are the future --the ones that will carry out the purposes and ways of the nation. We want to feel like we always have someone listening even. Our voices matter and so do the voice of those that have come before us. We represent Voices from the River.
Come out on May 30 to see what we all have to say....
Dinner will start 6PM and will be catered by Catinho Do Brasil
Showtime starts at 7:30PM,
See you there.
