The 2011 San Francisco International Arts Festival gets under way with a world class collaborative music concert by Afro-Cuban jazz great Omar Sosa and the Bay Area's own master of Latin Jazz, John Santos supported by Sosa's multi-talented international ensemble of players.
The San Francisco concerts will be the last date on Sosa's much anticipated eight city U.S. Tour that includes appearances in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York's famed Blue Note Jazz Club. The ensemble will also feature Marque Gilmore on drums, Childo Tomas on electric bass and Peter Apfelbaum on saxophones and flute.
The concert marks three years since Sosa and Santos last played at SFIAF when, at a sun-soaked Yerba Buena Gardens in what was their first shared in concert in ten years, they thrilled an audience of nearly 4,000 people.
The concert will also be the culmination of a two-day residency by Santos and Sosa at the Jazzschool Institute. The Jazzschool Latin Jazz Ensemble will demonstrate the fruits of the workshop as the opening act for the 8:00pm show.
