Life Sentence

JCC East Bay
Berkeley, CA

In 2002 Joshua Safran, an orthodox Jew and land-use lawyer, was approached by fellow attorney Nadia Costa about some pro-bono work—would he like to help her free a battered woman who has been wrongfully imprisoned for over two decades?  Safran saw the case as a chance to fulfill the Jewish prayer of matir asurim, freeing the imprisoned. The filmmakers and attorneys will attend the screening and participate in a Q&A afterwards.
Co-Sponsors: Shalom Bayit, the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, and the Progressive Jewish Alliance.
