Angie Coiro - In Deep Radio - Live at Kepler's
Wednesday, May 27, 2015 11am-1pm Kepler's Books 1010 El Camino Real Menlo Park CA 94025
Doors open at 10:30am. Show starts promptly at 11:00am!
Featured Guests:
11:00 a.m. - The Right to Die: Mark Romoser, speaking for the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF); Toni Broaddus, with Compassion and Choices, California
Two lawsuits filed this year mark the latest effort to assert a right to die for the terminally ill. Proponents paint the issue as a matter of individual freedom, including a sentient adult's right to end their pain. Opponents say making physician-assisted suicide legal would open the door to less-than-voluntary end of life decisions for the disabled and the poor.
12:15 p.m. - Brooke Borel, the author of "Infested: How The Bed Bug Infiltrated Our Bedrooms and Took Over the World"
Brooke is a contributing editor at Popular Science and has also written for Slate, Aeon, and PBS's NOVA Next, among others. She writes Our Modern Plagues on the Popular Science blog network, and also occasionally blogs for TED and The Last Word on Nothing. Her first book, Infested: How The Bed Bug Infiltrated Our Bedrooms and Took Over the World was published by the University of Chicago Press with additional support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Want to work with her? She mainly writes about science and will take on any topic, from particle physics to marine biology, although she's partial to stories about how we use science and technology to shape our environment.
Peninsula Arts & Letters brings the top writers, cultural and business leaders, scientists and thinkers to the community, providing an opportunity for people to engage with some of the most important writers and thinkers of our day.
