Tour of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant
If you've ever wanted to take a guided tour of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, California's only operating nuclear generation operation, this is your chance.

We'll start our tour at the PG&E Energy Education Center, 6588 Ontario Road, SLO, by watching two films about nuclear energy production and the Diablo Canyon Power Plant.  Then we'll hop on their bus that will take us to the plant site near Avila Beach. On arrival, we'll don our PG&E hard hats, put on our lexan safety glasses, clip a pair of leather gloves to our belts, and enter the building's security area.

Be prepared to do a lot of walking - about 1.5 miles unaided, with no benches to rest. We'll walk through the huge turbine generator building that is the source of about 20 percent of PG&E's electricity. We'll walk down stairs and ride up elevators from level to level, learning about high-pressure steam and dried steam that is reinserted into the low-pressure end of the turbine.

Outside the plant, you will get an overview of the cooling water intake area and the cooling water outflow area.  Plus, you'll see the dry-cask storage of the spent fuel assemblies on the hillside above the plant.

You'll have an opportunity to ask questions along the way, including the uncomfortable ones.

LLCC must provide PG &E with information about all who attend this course. If you register for this course you will be contacted by one of our volunteers who will ask for your SSN, home address, telephone number, email address, date of birth, citizenship, full name, gender, and whether you have previously visited the Diablo Canyon Power Project.

No cameras, cell phones or photography devices are to be used on site.

You should wear shoes or boots that have a hard flat sole, leather uppers with both closed-toes and closed-heels. Heels must be less than 1.5 inches tall. No tennis shoes, sneakers, sandals, low-cut slip-on, clogs, crocs, or ballet style shoes.

Thursday, May 21, 2015, 9am-12:30pm  PG&E Energy Education Center. The Deadline to sign up for this course is Friday, April 24.
