A Simple Rebirth and other works on women's struggle for empowerment.
Invisible Lines presents:
A Simple Rebirth...
... and other works on women's struggle for empowerment

Invisible Lines (http://www.invisiblelines.net) brings to Notsuoh Theatre a dramatic presentation of the Poetry of Samira R. Noorali based on her most recent book A Simple Rebirth. Noorali is a lawyer, musician, and poet. In this dramatized poetry performance, she tells the anguish of her recovery from sexual assault and the long journey to healing.  Noorali has taught poetry writing workshops at University of Texas and for trauma groups and has inspired a number of writers to, like her, use poetry as part of their healing process. A Simple Rebirth, the book, has been a featured sale at a Los Angeles production of the Vagina Monologues, and Noorali has toured the book throughout Texas, California and Florida.  Versions of the A Simple Rebirth theatrical production have featured at VoxCulture Houston's "Proclaiming Humanity" events, Janan's " I heart Art and Music" event in Houston, literary events by Wordspace in Dallas, as well as Pandora's Box at Margo Jones Theater in Dallas.

There will be three performances at 8pm from Thursday, April 16, to Saturday, April 18, 2015. All performances will be at Notsuoh Theatre, 314 Main St., 77002, which is located on the second floor of the historical Dean's Shoe Store building in downtown Houston.

More original poetic and musical works on the theme of women struggling against violence and oppression will be presented by a number of the performers joining Noorali in presenting A Simple Rebirth. The pieces will deal with the aftermath of sexual assault, family conflicts, internal struggle with self-worth, as well as male responses to male-on-female rape.

Invisible Lines is a poetry performance troupe dedicated to bringing original word craft to the Houston performing arts scene. Principals are Bucky Rea, Salvador Macias, Mike McGuire, and Baltazar Canales.

The opening act features the original work of cast members Samira R. Noorali, Nydia Avolevan, Noreen Ali, Amyna Dosani, Sofia Lakhani, Jarvis Price, Saif Sattani, Zoya Gilani and Blanca Rodriguez Alanis. Full of music, spoken word, dance and other creative expression, this show will enlighten and inspire you you!
