Eggs, Sprouts, and Farm Critters
Katharsis Meadows
Blanchardville, WI
Share this event:

Hands on activities show how an egg is formed and how seeds sprout into plants. Plant your own microgreens to take home. Visit the barn to look for eggs, feed the chickens and ducks, walk a goat on a leash. Clean up at the hand washing station using goat milk soap made on the farm. Activities designed for ages 4 and over, but all are welcome.

Station 1: Make a 2-D paper egg showing parts of an egg and learn how an egg is formed. Then find the parts on a real egg.

Station 2: Use a paper drawing of a sprouting seed to learn the components of a starting plant. Then look inside a bean seed to see the new plant forming.

Station 3: Visit the chickens, ducks and goats. Station 4: Wash-up before leaving with Katharsis Meadows goat milk soap.

All ages welcome for this family-friendly event; activities designed for children ages 4 and over.

NOTE:  Tickets for this event are per FAMILY.

A free copy of Renewing the Countryside: WISCONSIN will be given away to every family, couple and/or household registered for a particular workshop (a $26.95 value); the free book giveaway is limited to one copy per residential address of attendees.

About the Instructor Katharine Kramer:

Working at a non-profit training institute established by Promega, an international biotech company established in Madison, Wisconsin, Katharine taught molecular biology and science to students from 4K to college professors, including summer science camps and laboratory field trips.
The egg and seed activities were developed for one of the summer science camps.

Having always wanted to have animals and to cook with the best ingredients, Katharine retired from science in 2009 to develop a farm on the beautiful 40-acres she bought in 1998. For a 'city kid', comfortable working in science with things too small to see with a microscope, farming has been a challenging, but rewarding experience. Please join Katharine to learn about the science behind eggs and plants, meet her chickens, ducks and goats, and enjoy the beautiful hills and valleys of Katharsis Meadows.

On behalf of the South Central Chapter of the Wisconsin Farmers Union, thanks for participating in SOIL SISTERS. Since this is an annual event, we invite you to share your experiences on our Facebook page or other social media you use. Of course, we're always looking for ways to make your experience better, so let us know what we did right and what we could improve upon. Hope to see you back again next year where they'll always be something new to taste, animal to meet or soil sister to greet.
