Henry Butler Trio featuring members of The Motet
Hodi's Half Note Fort Collins, CO
If you missed blind New Orleans piano legend Henry Butler on March 4, another opportunity is on the horizon. Displaced by Hurricane Katrina, Butler now calls Denver home. Dr John, a piano legend in his own right, calls Butler "the pride of New Orleans, a visionistical down-home cat and a hellified piano plunker to boot." Butler's mix of percussive jazz, boogie-woogie ala Professor Longhair, Caribbean, classical, pop, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, R&B and delta blues all mesh into a sound party as big as Mardi Gras and as distinctly eclectic as New Orleans musical history. Accentuating that menagerie of sound will be Dave Watts and Garrett Sayers of local Afro-boogie specialists The Motet, who will add a grooving backbeat to Butler's rousing playing.
