Family, Friends, and Falls
The inaugural Family, Friends, and Falls Waterfall Hike & Photography Challenge will take place on Saturday, April 18 at Hanging Rock State Park, 1790 Hanging Rock Park Road in Danbury, North Carolina, ranked among the top twenty parks in the USA.
Participants will hike to four of the parks beautiful waterfalls, including Upper Cascades, Hidden Falls, Window Falls, and Lower Cascades and have the opportunity to submit one photograph each in the following categories; Waterfall, Friends, Flora, and Participants Choice. Winning photographs will be chosen in both age groups (5 -12 years old / 13 and older) by a panel of professional photographers with each category winner receiving a Blue Ribbon, Best of Stokes Gift Basket, and photo published in the Stokes News. Four People's Choice winners will be chosen via Facebook selection and receive Red Ribbons. Judges will also award four honorable mention winners from each category with White Ribbons. All non-winner photography participants in the 5 - 12 age group will receive green ribbons.
The fee to participate in Family, Friends, and Falls is $10 each for children ages five to twelve years old and $20 each for ages thirteen and above and includes event patch, photography competition (optional), and hotdog lunch with chips, fruit, cookie, and beverage. Day of registration starts at 9am with all participants required to begin the hike no later than 10am, with lunch served from 11am to 1pm.
Family, Friends, and Falls is organized and sponsored by the Friends of the Sauratown Mountains, Stokes County Arts Council and Hanging Rock State Park with proceeds benefiting the Vade Mecum Restoration Project. Advance registration can be made in person at the Hanging Rock State Park Visitors Center or Stokes County Arts Council office, 500 N.
