Slothpop Album Release Show at Radio Radio
Slothpop is kicking off their spring tour at Radio Radio on January 8 with Flotation Walls and The Bonesetters to promote their first album, self-titled Slothpop. Doors open at 8 p.m., and pre-sale tickets are available through Brown Paper Tickets for $6. Tickets day of show are $7.
Led by singer Kristin Newborn, Slothpop has established a bold, unique sound that is without peer in the Indianapolis music scene. Etheral soundscapes that evoke such luminaries as Björk and Radiohead are deftly intertwined with avant-garde pop sensibility on songs like "One", "Sailing Bird", and "Kokoro".
Newborn's graceful voice forms the centerpiece of the band's sound, but Slothpop is a collective that draws on the strengths of every member to yield a rich symphonic balance. Dan Zender's angular guitar ostinatos are set in counterpoint beside Jeffrey Vyain's mournful cello. Bryan Unruh's intricate drumming lays a powerful foundation for Drew Malott's tempestuous yet melodic bass guitar. Each of these is illuminated by the presence of Lauren Eison's soaring violin and impassioned vocals.
Hailing from Muncie, The Bonesetters take you to far-flung edges of human joy, despair and everything in between with unconventional instrumentation and electrification. Using tube-driven guitars, poppy relatives and rhythms to dance around, they are finishing up an album to share in the spring of 2011.
