| Description |
The director Royston Tan has described 4:30 a.m. as the loneliest time of the day, as it is both too late to sleep and too early to wake. The film explores this solitude in the unusual relationship between a Chinese boy and a Korean man in his thirties. The boy, Xiao Wu, is a student whose life revolves around school, an empty apartment, and the dubious comforts of instant noodles. One day, his routine is subtly transformed when Jung, the young Korean, becomes a new tenant in the apartment. Exiled in Singapore, Jung nurses an unknown sorrow, and it is with him that Xiao Wu identifies his own solitude. Though their paths rarely cross, Xiao Wu longs and tries by all possible means to forge a connection across the physical and metaphorical barriers that exist in that hour between night and day.
