Jill Bernard Workshops at Unscrewed Theater
Jill Bernard has been performing with ComedySportz-Twin Cities since 1993, and is a founding member of HUGE Theater in Uptown Minneapolis. Her one-woman improv piece, Drum Machine, has been featured in over forty improv festivals. She has taught and performed improv in Norway, Australia, Canada, Argentina, Peru, Italy, Germany and over thirty-five of the United States; and also on an episode of MTV "Made." She is one-half of the duo SCRAM with Joe Bill of the Annoyance Theater. An Artistic Associate of the Chicago Improv Festival, she has studied at the Annoyance Theater, Improv Olympic, the Brave New Workshop and other organizations; and is the recipient of the 2005 Chicago Improv Festival Avery Schreiber Ambassador of Improv Award, and the 2007 Miami Improv Festival award for Best Solo Show. She was also the winner, in January 2000, of the Executive Vice President Award for outstanding contribution to Human Resources, the highest award in the American Express Human Resources function. She's also the voice of God, the Holy Ghost, the Virgin Mary and other religious figures in a series of confirmation videos for Sparkhouse.

Workshops are listed with dates and times. All workshops (unless indicated) will be held at Unscrewed Theater:

Friday, May 1, 7-10PM *WORKSHOP WILL BE HELD AT COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT WILLIAMS CENTRE 201 S Williams Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85711*
THE OTHER CONFLICTS - We spend too much time on Man vs. Man. What other conflicts are there? Man vs. Nature, Man vs. Society, Man vs. Himself, etc. In this workshop we will do some scenes to see what we can do besides bicker with each other. Please wear closed toe shoes to this workshop.

Saturday, May 2, 10AM-1PM
THE FIREBALL THEORY - This workshop presents Jill Bernard's Fireball Theory and offers exercises to help you improvise faster and harder than you can judge yourself. You will learn to metaphorically hit the scene running and outrun the explosion of self-loathing and doubt like an action movie hero outruns a fireball thus defying the laws of physics. Please wear closed toe shoes to this workshop.

Saturday, May 2, 2PM-5PM
VAPAPO: CHARACTER TOOLKIT - Jill Bernard offers a character toolkit to give participants the ability to create strong, compelling characters that they can hang onto through the whole scene. This session will focus on using Voice, Attitude or Posture, and Animal, Prop or Obsession to build instant characters. Participants will use these tools to fearlessly initiate scenes, create relationships and find agreement. Please wear closed toe shoes to this workshop.

Sunday, May 3, 10AM-1PM
IF IT MAKES YOU HAPPY - Too often improv feels like a chore, filled with right decisions and good and bad choices. In this session with Jill Bernard, participants will learn the joy and success that follows doing exactly what tickles them. Please wear closed toe shoes to this workshop.

Sunday, May 3, 2PM-5PM
MUSICAL IMPROV FOR THE REST OF US - If you think counting beats and saving rhymes is tough, you're right. While those tools make for powerful improvised song structures for the pros, what about the rest of us who feel crippled by them? This one-day workshop will cover how to use 1) simple repetition, 2) expressive emotion, and 3) simple repetition to create catchy tunes that get you by.

Online sales end May 1 at Noon
