Feminine Freedom A concert for a Cause
Feminine Freedom has been collecting women's hygiene products on behalf of Resources for Human Development. To celebrate the end of the drive, a concert will be held at The Plough and the Stars in Philadelphia's Old City.
Slated to appear are local favorites such as Ali Wadsworth, M'Balia, The Primaries, Ladybird, Chelsea Mitchell, Sun Flights, Swing That Cat, Full Frontal Folk, and Hannah Taylor, with more acts to be announced.
Our concert ticketing is by DONATION: we suggest a $10 donation if you are able to attend the concert April 18th. Please use the ticketing option. If $10 is out of your price range, please feel free to make a donation you are comfortable with and join us. Please use the donation option to choose your own donation.
We also are encouraging and accepting any monetary donations for those who wish to contribute online.
Any money raised will offset the very minimal production costs of the drive (Boxes, posters, printed media) with the major bulk of donations being turned directly into feminine hygiene products purchased at bulk prices through a partnership between RHD and Shoprite.
MISSION
Women and business leaders across the city are joining together to donate feminine hygiene products for women in need, including those in shelters and women who have limited means while working to recover from trauma, mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Our collective group in Philadelphia is responding to these needs and we are collecting feminine hygiene products to change women's lives for the better. Feminine care products are expensive and supplies are always dwindling at the shelters, we want to help empower women and alleviate their need for products many of us take for granted.
ABOUT THE SHELTERS
We have chosen a 501c3 non-profit, Resources for Human Development to be the recipient of our donations, and are excited to benefit their six Philadelphia women's shelters: The Woodstock Family Shelter which provides shelter and food to homeless women with children. Family House Norristown and Family House NOW, which are two of the few long-term residential treatment facilities for women with children who are suffering from mental illness and chemical dependency; and Womanspace Philadelphia which serves as the city's only female residential treatment program for chronically homeless women suffering from addiction and mental illness. Womanspace Ardmore is a similarly based program just outside of the city that focuses on chemical dependence in a home like setting. CHOC is the Coordinated Homeless Outreach Center of Montgomery County, an 80 bed overnight facility that has a day center where clients can wash their clothes, receive benefits and attend meetings.
