VIENNA TENG - IN CONCERT!
Vienna Teng's fourth album, "Inland Territory" won last years Independent Music Awards: "The Best Singer-Songwriter Album of 2009" and it is a tour de force musically and lyrically, a complex, a deeply thoughtful work, and its her most ambitious and most exciting work yet.
Shortly after quitting her job as a Cisco software engineer in 2002, her brand of sophisticated, piano-driven pop has been gathering accolades ever since. She was interviewed on NPR, and performed on The Late Show with David Letterman. She has released four critically acclaimed albums, landing her on the Billboard Charts and in Amazon.com's Top Ten. She also regularly sells out theaters across the U.S. and Europe, and has opened for the likes of India Arie, Joan Baez and Madeleine Peyroux.
Now 33, the songwriter, singer and pianist is attending the Ross Graduate School of Business at the University of Michigan to study sustainable enterprise. Teng has stated that she will continue to be composing music, although she will not be touring as frequently. "People ask me what kind of music I play, I tend to work a lot with basically classical trained musicians, but most of my influences are 1970's-era folk music, so I very often, just call it : Chamber Folk." :-)
