theTABLE: Domestic Violence
theTABLE:
Food, arts, culture, politics, and community, in an environment free from assumptions and formal constraints; a thoughtful space where curiosity is required and conversation is encouraged.
While enjoying a gourmet brunch, we will explore an issue with experts alongside a visual or performing artist whose own work is inspired by the topic. You don't have to be an expert to participate, merely curious.
coLAB's regular monthly food and conversation series continues in April with a special topic co-presentation with domestic violence prevention advocate Town Clock CDC.
We will investigate the existence of violence against women and families in modern culture. This event will feature a command performance by Rutgers Alumna artist Colie McLellan and her one-woman show Arethusa. This multi-year project theatrically presents interviews with women who are survivors of violent relationships. Using this artists work as a reference, expert Elaine Mcewins of RWJUH will take participants into the unknown facts and realities of this complex issue. Additional panelists will be announced closer to the event date.
What is the legacy of Domestic Violence prevention? Where does domestic violence exist in contemporary culture? What can large organizations like the NFL be doing to prevent this kind of violence? What can friends and families of the violated do to aid recognition and recovery?
