Comedy Returns to El Rio! (Mon, Nov 8)
Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Presents...
Comedy Returns to El Rio!

Every 2nd Monday of the month @ 8pm at El Rio.
The next show is Monday, Nov 8th.

Comedian/comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig, (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy) began her stand up comedy career 21 years ago at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District. She strives to produce multicultural, multi-everything comedy shows with the variety of shows she produces each year (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy, Funny Girlz, The Color of Funny). The line-ups are always a diverse cultural, gender, and sexual orientation mix, and her comedy productions showcase some of the funniest and smartest stand up comics from San Francisco and beyond.

The Monday, Nov 8th show features:
Dhaya Lakshminarayanan, Sammy Obeid, Pippi Lovestocking, David Kleinberg, & Lisa Geduldig

DHAYA LAKSHMINARAYANAN is a former venture capitalist-turned-comedian who had a traditional Indian upbringing in the Deep South. She is the TV host of "High School Quiz Show" which premiered on PBS's WGBH this past March. In past incarnations, Dhaya also traveled to Cuba as a researcher, was Ms. August '06 Saffron Rare Threads, taught "Charm School" at MIT where she graduated (twice), and attended two Democratic National Conventions as a journalist before starting in the "funny" business of comedy. She is one of the only professional Indian stand-up comediennes in the world. Dhaya was the 2009 headliner of Women of Color in Comedy in Boston, has MC'ed for private events, galas, shows, and auctions including the America India Foundation Gala and the Nirvana Woman's Fashion Show; she worked as an on-camera host with VidSF, plays a doctor (no, really) on an Amgen TV commercial, was a finalist at the Rooster .T Feathers Comedy Competition, and performs all over the country. www.dhayacomedy.com

SAMMY OBEID is a native to the San Francisco Bay Area and prefers living nowhere else, so long as he only has a bike. Within his first year in comedy he won first place in the 2008 Rooster T Feathers Comedy Competition, and within his first year and a half he won first place in the 2008 San Jose Improv Comedy Competition and placed 2nd in Wild 94.9's Best Comic Standing Competition.Ã,Ã, He was just a finalist in the 2010 SF Comedy Competition. He is a member of the CoExist Comedy Tour and performs for audiences all over the nation.Ã,Ã, Check him out at www.SammyKO.com

PIPPI LOVESTOCKING, the drag persona of actor Scot Free, is a staple on the Bay Area comedy scene. In 1996 Pippi and drag buddy, Heklina, started the infamous club Trannyshack at the Stud. The club continues to this day managed exclusively by Heklina. Scot/Pippi has numerous film credits as well as many appearances on Japanese TV. Pippi has also appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and on Last Comic Standing.

DAVID KLEINBERG started doing comedy in 1997 when he was 54 years old after a 34-year newspaper career. He served his last 14 years as editor of the SF Chronicle's Sunday Datebook (The Pink Pages). Kleinberg doesn't worry about getting laughs. "That's one of the great things about starting to do comedy in your 60s," he says. "I've already failed at so many things in life that this isn't anything. You know the only difference between me and the young comics? I already know I'm going nowhere." He believes he brings this comic background and a lifetime of local experience to the stage today, railing at the city's current political correctness. As a young man growing up in San Francisco, Kleinberg witnessed comedy first-hand in its hey day, frequently an audience member at Enrico Banducci's "hungry i" where he saw such early legends as Bill Cosby, Jonathan Winters, and Mort Sahl. Kleinberg has performed with Robin Williams, Dana Carvey and Sinbad, and has opened for Bobby Slayton, Richard Lewis and Christopher Titus.

LISA GEDULDIG is the creator, producer, & MC of a variety of annual comedy shows: Kung Pao Kosher Comedy; The George Bush Going Away Party; Funny Girlz; A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar; The Color of Funny; Comedy Returns to El Rio; and Charo.
