The Gated Community, a cultishly delightful Minneapolis/St. Paul-based Americana band, is celebrating its 9th anniversary and the release of its second album, We Can Do Anything. Church of Cash, the premiere Johnny Cash tribute band in the Midwest, is the headliner. Their first joint bill, this event is sure to ignite like flint stones and fire, so please bring protective headgear.
Church of Cash:
Jay "Jayder" Kalk formed Church of Cash in sunny Honolulu back in 2010. With an uncanny grasp of the Man in Black's catalog and many years of experience touring the United States, Europe, and Asia, Jayder has returned to his Minnesota home to spread the gospel of one of the world's most important and enduring songwriters. The Church of Cash is true to the music of Johnny Cash, and singer Jayder's deep baritone voice sings like a prairie breeze and stomps like a boot heel. Church of Cash is not a country band. Church of Cash is a tribute band with the express purpose of honoring the indelible legacy of Johnny Cash. Road-tested and always road-ready, The Church of Cash is celebrating the soul of American music.
The Gated Community:
A countryish, bluegrassish band that takes inspiration from all deities. Our repertoire is almost completely original, but also includes a large number of heavily reworked covers our hope, for legal reasons, is that you won't be able to tell the difference. The songs, mostly written by Sonny Mackintosh, address the four universal, Platonic themes of love, art, politics, and science. The instrumentation of the band is eclectic, sometimes accenting the electrical, sometimes the mechanical, sometimes the petrochemical. As Phil Nussbaum once very aptly said, "The Gated Community. They live where you can't go." But we'd still like to take you home with us.
