About Sandy:
Sandra Herrera was born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado and began playing clarinet at the age of twelve, although her love of music began with piano lessons at the age of seven. She graduated from Eastman School of Music in May of 2009 with a Masters degree in clarinet performance, where she studied with Kenneth Grant and Robert Dilutis. At Eastman, she also had the opportunity to study chamber music with the renowned collaborative pianist, Jean Barr, and Ying Quartet violist, Phillip Ying. Prior to coming to Eastman, she earned her Bachelor's degree at Colorado State University where she studied with Dr. Charles Lawson. She also spent a year in the graduate program at the University of DenverÃÂÃ,¢Ã,Ã,ÂÃ,Ã,Âs Lamont School of Music where she had the opportunity to study with Abby Raymond, who is the assistant principal clarinetist of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. She is also an active teacher, with a small studio in her current home in Rochester, NY. In June 2010 after a successful audition, she was offered a coveted position as a musician in the U.S. Navy and will be shipping out in May 2011.
