WHIPLASH with The Monk's Brew (FILM at the Erie Art Museum)
April 1
Whiplash (2014) with The Monk's Brew live jazz performance
Drama/Music

A promising young drummer enrolls at a cutthroat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential. Directed by: Damien Chazelle. Starring: Miles Teller, J.K. Simmons Rated R. 107 Minutes.

*Oscar Nominee for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing & Best Supporting Actor

Immediately following the film, The Monk's Brew will take to the stage for a live performance.

The Monk's Brew has been creating what JazzErie has described as a "unique brand of contemporary jazz" since October 2011, when the group met at Mercyhurst University. The band is Dillon Shidemantle - trumpet and voice, Bobby Lucas - keyboards, Alex McLaughlin - bass, and Michael Hibbler II - drums. Inspired by the jazz tradition, the band joined to create what has been called "the next generation of jazz": music that is strong, smooth, and connected to today.

In Erie, The Brew has frequented the Anchor In, Brewerie, and the Erie Ale House, as well as premiere fundraisers, weddings, and Mercyhurst events. They were featured on 2014's Jazz Walk and are set to open for Chris Brubeck, legendary pianist Dave Brubeck's son, in April. The band can be heard on WQLN 91.3 FM's late night jazz programming. The Monk's Brew features classic jazz and modern pop alongside originals by Lucas/McLaughlin
