Synchronicity: Glassworks by Philip Glass
For the first concert of Synchronicity, our new partnership with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Mobtown Modern pays homage to famed Baltimore native and minimalist icon Phillip Glass with a performance of Glassworks. Glass created the composition as an answer to the 1979 release of the Soundabout (i.e. Walkman), in an effort to make his notoriously lengthy compositions suitable for portable audio with the intention of reaching a broader audience. Glassworks marked his successful attempt to create a more pop-oriented sound with considerably shorter and more accessible pieces. BSO Music Director Marin Alsop and Mobtown Modern Curator Brian Sacawa will lead the audience in a pre-concert discussion of Glass's seminal work.
