The Nego Gato African Brazilian Music and Dance Ensemble brings to their audiences the living history of Africans brought to Brazil during the period of the slave trade through the music and dance that has survived for over 500 years. Artistic Director, Jose Sena (Nego Gato) grew up immersed in the sounds of Carnaval, Candomble Ceremonies and the street music of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Their repertoire includes traditional Afro Brazilian Folkloric Dance forms such as Samba, Dances of the Orixa and the African Brazilian Martial Art, Capoeira. All performances feature live percussion and traditional instruments.  This performance with trace the roots of African Brazilian culture to its Congolese origins with special guest artist Titos Sompa, a native of Congo Brazzaville.  Titos is a living treasure of Congolese Culture, and a master of the Mbira, Congolese thumb piano.  Please join us for a journey to Africa and Brazil.
