Passing
Passing is a play about a woman that looks white but has the soul of a black woman. Minerva Roulhac was born in 1899. Her true ethnicity is unknown because she was orphaned at a young age. Despite her Caucasian appearance, she was adopted by a former slave and raised as black. Her brother, Jordon ran away as a teenager and decided to pass for white. Passing follows Minerva's remarkable journey to stay true to her identity. She raised children (all college-educated) and lived to be nearly 100 years old. The play is inspired by a true story. Although "Passing" is set in 1943, its message is more relevant than ever. It confronts issues of race, identity, complexion, ethnicity and interracial relationships. The theme of this show is as powerful as it is timeless. Passing is an American story.
