Here at Programs Employing People (PEP), we are providing people with intellectual disabilities employment and day services to increase their independence and improve their lives in Philadelphia. Our mission is to provide education, recreation, vocational training, and job placement services to people with disabilities and to strengthen their relationships in the community.
Founded in 1969, PEP was originally created in South Philly by a group of mothers and community residents to offer a summer camp for their children with intellectual disabilities. Over the past 45 years, PEP has greatly expanded its programs to better serve the needs of its consumers. Ongoing year-round vocational and social services include Community Integrated Employment, In-Home and Community Habilitation, Adult Literacy and Basic Education, Community Arts for Socialization, Adult Day Training, and Camp PEP. We help nearly 300 people with disabilities, their families, and community members each year.
Approximately 70% of our funding comes from government contracts through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. To fully fund our programs, we must rely on the generosity of our partnerscorporations, foundations and individualsso that we can make an impact in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.
