* From July 6 through August 7, Monday and Friday tours begin at 10:00am and 12:30pm. There will be no afternoon tour on August 7.

Visit MANITOGA, the House, Studio and Landscape of pioneer industrial designer, Russel Wright (1904-1976). Tour Dragon Rock, Wright's experimental home which he built onto the rock ledge of an abandoned quarry while masterfully orchestrating the surrounding landscape into a series of outdoor rooms of varying character and delight.

General admission is $20; Seniors/Students/ Manitoga and National Trust members $15; and $10 for children under 12; $35 for Extended Tour (see details below). Tours are led by professional guides and limited to 12 people.

THE TOUR EXPERIENCE

Tours begin with a short film about Wright's life and design legacy. Visitors then follow the upper Quarry path to Dragon Rock. Along the way, the tour features stunning views of the House and Studio, an ascending stone staircase, a field of mountain laurel, and the exquisite moss room. Visitors approach Dragon Rock by crossing the majestic waterfall via a wood plank bridge. Interior spaces are defined by expanses of glass, innovative materials use, and seamless connections to outside terraces. The Tour concludes by following a stepping stone path over the Quarry Pool dam to the Visitor/Guide House.

ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM FOR THE 2015 SEASON: Manitoga's Artist Residency Program introduces the site-specific installation SANCTUARY by artist Stephen Talasnik - a series of floating structures in Manitoga's Quarry Pool adjacent to the House and Studio. Special tours with the artist will be held on Saturday, May 30 at 1:30 pm. Advance booking required. $25

IMPORTANT TOUR INFORMATION

Tours last 90 minutes and are conducted rain or shine. Please wear sensible walking shoes and dress for weather. Visitors must be able to negotiate uneven ground, several bridge crossings with no handrails and a series of 40 stone steps. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A MODERATE HIKE. PLEASE WEAR SENSIBLE WALKING SHOES.

General admission is $20; $15 for Students/National Trust members, Storm King members and Manitoga members; $10 for children under 12; $35 for Extended Sketch/Photograph/Write Tours. PLEASE NOTE: From Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 31, tours on Fridays and Mondays begin at 10:00am and 12:30pm.

Visitors meet at Manitoga's Visitor/Guide House next to the parking lot located at 584 Route 9D in Garrison, NY. The guide will arrive just before the tour begins. No pets please.

ABOUT ARTIST STEPHEN TALASNIK

Inspired by the aesthetics of engineering, Talasnik's sculptural works intersect with his ongoing studio investigation of drawing. His approach to building is informed by his years of residency and travel in the Far East where he studied the traditions of indigenous hand built systems that employ natural materials.

Talasnik's work is included in major international collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; The Pompidou in Paris; British Museum, London; The Albertina, Vienna; and The State Museum of Berlin. Additional information about the artist is available at www.stephentalasnik.com.
